The Lighthouse Lens

Australia's Great Ocean Road

London Arch

The Great Ocean Road is considered to be one of the most beautiful travel spots on the planet (The Great Barrier Reef is ranked No. 1). It is a 273km stretch of road along the South Eastern coast of Australia between the Victorian cities of Torquay and Warrnambool. The road was constructed as a Memorial to those killed in the First World War.
Just beyond the amazing Twelve Apostles is London Arch (formerly known as London Bridge before the very recent collapse of land section).

Multnomah Falls

drops in two major steps, split into an upper falls of 542 feet (165 m) and a lower falls of 69 feet (21 m), with a gradual 9 foot (3 m) drop in elevation between the two, so the total height of the waterfall is conventionally given as 620 feet (189 m). Hiking to Cathedral Rock

Cynthia and I spent several weeks in Sedona in October 2004. Our first major hike was climbing to the top of Cathedral Rock.
The weather was overcast for much of the hike . . . . but as the sun began to set, the rays went below the cloud layer and began to light up the valley . . . as you will see in the next image.

Instead of doing a chronology of one complete trip, I will start posting my best photos from all the different locations we have visited. Hope you like the new format. Aside from the fact that the Pitti Palace hotel is located immediately next to the Ponte Vechio and was reasonably priced, it also has a roof-top garden restaurant which provides a spectacular view of Florence . . . day or night.

The Duomo was located a few minutes from our hotel, which means we passed by it often .... as well as several tours inside.

We just finished watching the PBS series done on the Medici family which explained a lot of the significance and history of Florence and the Duomo.

Florence is a city rich in history, filled with tons of galleries and museums. We did a lot of homework before we left Montreal and made reservations months in advance for the Uffizi and David . . . . but without a doubt, the first stop we Had to make was at Vivoli for the best gelato in all of Florence.

Our train arrived in Florence at 3pm Sunday and we headed straight to the Pitti Palace, our hotel located just beside the Ponte Vechio.

It was only a short walk from the restaurant to our hotel. What a great view to remember a wonderful day in Lugano.

Our second day of walking ended with us eating at the famous Restaurant Al Portone. It was our last evening with Denis and this was a perfect way for us to celebrate. We would continue on to Florence by train the following morning.

Frommer's Review
If you enjoy Italian-style modern cuisine, head for this sophisticated restaurant managed by chef Roberto and Doris Galizzi. As with all cuisine moderne, many of the combinations sound bizarre, but the taste is usually sensational. Large scampi with curry and mango and the sole "in the style of Roberto" are veritable palate pleasers. If you order the most expensive fixed-price menu, you can lascia fare à Roberto -- leave it up to Roberto, the chef. You'll rarely be disappointed: Roberto is known for putting his own culinary spin on even the most traditional of Italian dishes. The desserts are also exceptional. Regrettably, the restaurant closes in August at the peak of the tourist invasion.

After a fabulous train ride through the alps, we were more than impressed with the view from our lakeside hotel. We stayed long enough to drop off our bags . . . and then off to our walking tour with Denis around Lugano.
